Granted, things are moving along very slowly - that's primarily a factor of lack-of-documentation. I have 5 SPARCs now, 4 running OpenBSD 2.5, one running Slowaris 2.4. I have 2 intel FreeBSD machines, as well, soon to be three. I have very little documentation, but I'm working in the land of Sun this month, so I'm going to try to find as much as possible. I currently have my eye on three books. One is a hardcover red book, something like design and implementation of a 4.4 BSD operating system. One is the Lions' Commentary on System 6. The last is SPARC Architecture manual version 8. I have purchased none of these, yet. If anyone has other or better suggestions, I would appreciate it. I have started trudging through OpenBSD, NetBSD, and FreeBSD sources, as well, but I haven't written any code yet. Including my roommate, I think there are half a dozen others on this list that are interested in working the 32-bit version of the SPARC port. I would be glad to take up a leadership position, but I really have no idea what's involved with writing an operating system - regardless of what code already exists. I wouldn't feel comfortable taking charge with my current lack of knowledge. So, like Wes et al., I'm waiting for "the leader." <:) Lyndon > -----Original Message----- > From: owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG > [mailto:owner-freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG]On Behalf Of Joe Abley > Sent: Wednesday, July 14, 1999 3:39 AM > To: freebsd-sparc@FreeBSD.ORG > Subject: Re: 32-bit sparc port > > > On Thu, Jul 01, 1999 at 10:25:36PM +1200, Joe Abley wrote: > > >From recent archives it looks like there's a few people with some > > vintage sparc hardware to throw at a 32-bit porting attempt.
