Yes, I wiped out /usr/obj (rm -rf /usr/obj)

You mean remove the directory

/usr/src/usr.sbin/ftp-proxy

even though it's part of the sources?

Yes, there is a directory /usr/src/usr.sbin/ftp-proxy.
