I feel your pain, I developed/maintained ATA for 10+ years and its not = easy to satisfy all. However, one of the selling points for me has always been that current = support doesn=E2=80=99t break, and that is usually the case, with a few = exceptions. I realise that getting all the old stuff working is a huge amount of = work, but I also think its important to get it done.
