Try using the version of 2.2.2-RELEASE in the "newser" dir on the
server.  I had the same problem, and this solved it.  I believe the
address is
ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/2.2.2-RELEASE/floppies/newer/boot.flp.
Try it out, it worked for me.
