In most countries telephone costs are per connected time, so it can
desirable to retrieve and send e-mail non-interactively. Just
yesterday I set up fetchmail and postfix to do this, and fetchnews for
news; glued together with some scripts I can dial up, fetch and send
mail, fetch news, and set the clock with one command. (If anyone is
interested in details, drop me a note.)
