The sysctl part was ea= sy > to do. Can anyone help me? You have several options that may help: 1: As suggested, set arts to exit if idle (any arts aware application that= =20 needs it will start it up again when it's wanted) 2: Run realplayer through arts sound with "artsdsp realplay" - you'd probab= ly=20 want to alias that, and you'll likely experience some latency (slowness,=20 skips, unsynched sound and video) with streaming media. 3: As suggested above, but, instead of trying to figure out how to teach=20 realplayer to use a different dsp (I don't know that either, sorry), in KDE= 's=20 control panel, in the sound server module, choose "use custom device" and t= ry=20 setting *it* to /dev/dsp0.. That will still leave you with xmms and=20 realplayer to fight it out for the default dsp device, but, at least you ha= ve=20 arts out of the way, and it's unlikely you'd want xmms and realplayer both= =20 running at the same time. You could use 1 and 3 together (well, you could use all three together, but= =20 that's probably overkill.)
