The Linux ethernet.howto was a big help to me when I was looking for my NIC for FreeBSD. Based on that and other reading, a Lance chip-based card appeared to be the best choice (bus-mastered DMA, low overhead, great throughput, good driver support for many platforms). Looking for an ISA card, I purchased a Allied Telesyn AT1500BT. Works well with the 2.0.5 Lance driver. There are probably brand-X 2100 cards around, but I didn't get a line on them. The HOWTO doc and other information also said to watch out for some 2100 cards -- they're not all created equal. Randall Hopper rhh@ct.picker.com
