I did these steps yesterday. The only difference was that I used
pkg_cutleaves instead of pkg_deinstall (in several times to remove
dependencies too).

Removing the UTC zoneinfo file helped with cvsup singal 4. I have no
idea why.

I still can't compile ruby with rvm and gcc46:
