The cable runs by the chassis fans; could it be susceptible to 
interference from the fans? A while ago we cranked down the transfer 
speed of da1 and da2 (which comprise a vinum mirror) to 40MB/s in case 
that would help make it more resistant to noise (but again to no avail).
