Date: Tue, 28 Apr 1998 12:03:13 -0500 MIME-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Sender: owner-freebsd-questions@FreeBSD.ORG Precedence: bulk X-Loop: FreeBSD.ORG Greetings all... Since we recieved so many replies to our initial query regarding how to accomplish a recursive file transfer, I thought it best to thank everyone who responded at the same time: Many thanks. I thought the list as a whole maight be interested in the final "tally" and resolution: Number One Recommendation: MOXFTP. Don't know if this works or not. Although it presented with the most recommendations, they all came after the issue had been resolved with a tool only suggested by a *single* respondent, (see below). Number Two Recommendation: SAMBA/RUMBA. As I said in my post, we were very seriously considering this very course if there turned out to be no other way. My main concern with this route was that (besides being pretty massive overkill) SAMBA is a kernel land "fix". RUMBA turns out to be userland, although I didn't know that till this A.M.. Number Three Recommendation: FTPTOOL. Didnt try it, as this machine is to be a dedicated FTP server, and I don't want to install X11, or any other unnecessary software on a box that will have ONLY [character-based] pty access. Number Four, withonly a single recommendation, and the tool that we used *VERY* successfully: WGET. This is a real gem of a tool! Not only does it literally suck everything in sight, it logs it all as well! Besides that, it uses ALL available bandwidth (at least here), making it FAST. The ONLY problem/inconvenience I found is it's propensity to use the URL as the destination root directory - and judging from how well this thing appears to have been thought out, this is probably just me missing something on my quickie documentation scan! Thanks again, J.A. Terranson sysadmin@mfn.org A small fading light in a vast and obscure universe.
