No, it's (meant to be) supported as always.

You never had a choice, other than due to bogsity in the kernel.  All 
that's happened is that the illusion of choice has been removed.  It's 
no longer mandatory (or supported) to abuse the compatability slice 
when mounting the root filesystem.
