Don't take this to heart; there are plenty of people who agree with you. We just need to find a way to make most of the people happy most of the time. There's no need to back out this commit. Too many people call for backout when in fact a further refinement would do the job. For me, the refinement is to make it easily configurable. The real question, which no longer has to do with your commit, is why we need more than one configuration file in /etc/defaults.
