I'm interested in very carefully done benchmarks, ones that can be repeated... gcc-2.7.0 -O2 usually produces worse code than gcc-2.6.3 -O2 due to a worse default for -fforce-mem flag. Constants get loaded into registers more. On the i386, this usually wastes a little time to load the constant and may waste a lot of time when it starves the register allocator. Bruce
