I'm probably not the best person to answer but I did some downloads myself (the cds are so hard to get here). You will at the very least need bin/ which is about 26M. You can safely leave out src/ although you need src/ssys.* to build a custom kernel. Next to that I *strongly* recommend manpages/ and maybe compat*/ Don't download anything from packages/. You should be able to reuse source tarballs (*.tar.gz) from you ReadHat cd and compile them for FreeBSD using the ports which will save a lot on downloading! If you don't like compiling your own, you don't need ports/ and you can download the packages you want. I don't know about XFree but you can safely leave out all PC98-Servers and Servers for graphics cards you don't have. Good luck, -- Wim Livens.
