Which works very well indeed in many situations. Someone else has already mentioned distributed filesystems line AFS -- another thing to contemplate is the new HAST capability in FreeBSD: http://wiki.freebsd.org/HAST It's conceptually similar to Linux DRBD, which in theory you can use under FreeBSD as well, but no idea how it performs.
