Which, of course, was why I spoke up in the first place.

The log's only 15K but here's the start:

Script started on Thu Sep 23 00:14:19 1999
nisser:/usr/ports/x11/gnome# make reinstall
===>  Installing for gnome-1.0.0
===>   gnome-1.0.0 depends on file: /usr/X11R6/share/gnome/sounds/startup.wav
-
found
===> gnome-1.0.0 depends on executable: panel - not found
===> Verifying reinstall for panel in /usr/ports/x11/gnomecore
===>  Building for gnomecore-1.0.9
gmake  all-recursive
...
up to previous message.

performed after I'd cvsupped both system and ports. System is now at:

nisser:/home/www/Slak$ uname -a
FreeBSD nisser.com 3.3-STABLE FreeBSD 3.3-STABLE #10: Tue Sep 21 21:24:05 CEST
1
999     toor@nisser.com:/usr/src/sys/compile/FORSETI  i386

What's a mode and how would I go about figuring out what mode the
system was in retro-actively since modes are by definition trancient?

Roelof
