I don't purchase cdroms by principle > because ones you have installed your systems it is useless..( I have a box I think you're simply not considering the full value of a CDROM then. As I pointed out in another email a few weeks ago, those who choose to support the project by buying a subscription do several things of value: 1. They get themselves counted as "serious FreeBSD users" in that they're willing to make a financial committment, something which we can then share with other ISVs who are looking for *firm* numbers on the question of how many FreeBSD users there are out there who are actually willing to spend money on software. With enough users of such proven means, things like Oracle and StarOffice for FreeBSD become far closer to being a reality. 2. The CDs can be used quite effectively for promotional purposes. If yours are becoming industrial waste then you're truly not using them correctly. There are plenty of schools, libraries, junior hackers and other good causes that will easily absorb any spare CDs you might have if you just do a little bit of asking around, and such promotional use of the CDROMs probably does more overall good for the project than the $39.95 purchase price actually does. - Jordan To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
