I do agree with peter on this one...and somewhere on / makes good sense, however I'm very much against doing in /etc. /etc/local/ on the otherhand would be fine. Why? /etc has always been one of the hardest directories to manage. What do you keep, what do you blow away when it's time to upgrade. /etc/local makes things a lot more clear "stuff I've added"
