I got a report from two users close in time so I sensed there was some urgency to commit a fix. One was a private email, the other one was on ports@: http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports/2014-May/092146.html > I want to know why .la is needed? They are needed as long as there are .la files in other ports which still contain references to them. Those ports first need USES=libtool too such that those references are removed. Examples in this case are openldap-client-sasl and libetpan.
