The original situation was that the eisa bridge driver was included into the kernel conditionaly on pci only. Since a while it depend on eisa too. Without this the AS4100 has no ISA bus - and no sio, clock, ... Either we enable eisa or with include the eisa bridge driver without having eisa. Eisa support itself is quite small: [58]cicely12# size eisaconf.o text data bss dec hex filename 5340 848 16 6204 183c eisaconf.o Additionaly there a a few bytes for drivers that have eisa support and are enabled on alpha.
