The machine has been as stable as a rock, even with DMA on, since I have downgraded it to 4.5. It looks to me that 4.6 really broke something :-( I shall try 4.7 of course, but given that cvsup'ed sources from short before 4.7 was released didn't solve the problem, I'm not overly optimistic.
