Have you tried upgrading to py38-pyside2 ? It should use that package then. It would be best to upgrade all python related packages to use py38 and the problem should be gone :-) If you use pkg then 'pkg update; pkg upgrade' should do the job :-) If you use ports then probably you will have to update python to 3.8 in the first place and use it as default.
