Excellent!  :-)

Yes, running your own Unix machine with root access is a great way to
learn things by breaking stuff, then fixing stuff, installing and
uninstalling then reinstalling.  :-) :-)

Yes.  Just read the FreeBSD installation guide thoroughly before
proceeding, and make sure that you've backed up anything/everything
important before committing any partitions, etc.  I had my system up
in no time -- back when 2.0.x was still kicking around; it's even
easier now.  :-)
