I have been a lurker for quite some time, with a few questions to the -questions mailing list here and there. Mostly, I just read, make my own mistakes, and muddle through them. I was just reading a request for help on the newbies list and I realized that I understood what was wrong by the error message! Not that I know the answer, but I understood the error message. That was a big surprise for me.... it means I understand (finally!) the disk/partition/slice naming conventions. I thought I'd never get that. lol I slowly graduated from Windows to Linux over a 2 year period, and now I am graduating from Linux to FreeBSD... I have Windows 2000 Pro, Linux Mandrake 9.1 and FreeBSD 5.0 on my system, and I am finding less and less use for Windows or Linux and spending more and more time having a blast figuring out FreeBSD lately. At this point, all I have left to get figured out is my ATAPI CD burner, printing with CUPS, and how to install and run NeverWinter Nights. Since I really haven't even tried any of those three, I'll just wait until I have given it my best shot before I ask for help. But I must say... I LOVE FreeBSD!!! I used to love Linux... but then I started running into difficulties as I outgrew the point and click we'll-do-everything-for-you interface. It was dependency hell that made me turn to FreeBSD for a solution, and I am thrilled. I am sure some other distros besides Mandrake would fit my needs better than Mandrake does, but why should I go for unix-like when I can just get BSD and have it be more stable and even easier to use and reliable to boot! Just loving PortUpgrade and Make Buildworld/Make Buildkernel. This is the good life. :) Shannon __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier.
