The problem went away aft= er the upgrade to 12.2-RELEASE, both on the in-tree driver (7.7.5) and the external em-7.7.8 from Intel upstream. I've since upgraded to 13.0-RELEASE (also ran several of the RCs) on the device and haven't had any issues with jumbo frames since then.
