Hi,

Thanks for your help with SAMBA. I now have it up and running and am
delighted with the way it works. Yes, initially configuring SAMBA
passwords by hand is a bit tedious and keeping them in sync with
/etc/passwds is OK provided there are not too many users. For me the
../sysutils/webmin tool is overkill, but for larger systems is probably
ideal.

Incidentally I was looking for a way to mount the Windows shares on the
FreeBSD box and couldn't find smbmount. Having read the archives I
installed Sharity-light from the 3rd CD-ROM (version 3.2-RELEASE) and it
works *very* well indeed. Curiously shlight allows me to type in *any*
password known to the Windows 98 machine and connect, irrespective of
user name. I guess NT is less forgiving, but don't have NT box to test
this out.

I have two further questions about smbclient and sharity light, posted
under separate threads because neither are to do with passwords.

Thanks again for helping to get the passwords sorted

Ric
