At present, as a a local workaround, I've reinstalled the old
dbus-1.12.20_5.pkg file I had on my build machine and everything works
fine again.

Unluckily I have no idea what the issue is, and also not sure how to
diagnose it.

startxfce4 launched from the console without X11 running starts the
Xserver and launches a bunch of programs but screen stays black.

Usually I have lightdm running and from there I get a window with the
error I described before.

Looks like the user process for dbus fails to start some way. launching
dbus-launch by hand does not seem to help though.

Maybe xfce4-session is at fault and trying to connect in some
unsupported way? I really don't know that much about dbus.
