FreeBSD is that here is not enough demand for this O/S for us to spend the time, money and energy on fully supporting this platform, but I have been receiving a number of requests from potential customers, asking us to support this platform more fully. At this moment in time - I cannot commit to you that we will have a 5.5 version of InterBase for BSD this year.... based on our current development schedules. But that doesn't mean that I couldn't source the port from elsewhere. Linux on the other hand is a different proposition, it is now our 3rd largest selling platform, having only been released 12 months ago, and we do have a 5.1 version of InterBase for Linux. Linux is fast becoming a priority port for us. So I cannot commit to an InterBase 5.5 on FreeBSD at anytime in the near future (certainly not on a $5k - $10k run rate. In terms of cost - we do have a very active VAR program, that not only constitutes smaller VARs like yourself but also major customers, each VAR has a tailored package and pricing model that suits their business. So if you wanted to depoy Linux - we could put a pricing model together that would work for you. ------------------------------------------------- This looks really promising guys. If we could all team together and buy InterBase 5.5 for FreeBSD from Inprise, we probably can raise so much money this would be really interesting. Currently I need 3 server licenses and 25 user licenses: I'm not sure if these user licenses can be spread over 3 servers, but assuming this does I have $5000 for this. Probably more licenses will follow later this year, but this is what I currently need. If we can speak as one voice to Inprise and buy, at once, dozens to hundreds of server licenses, and hundreds to thousands of user licenses, they probably can promise something this year! I'm not sure how to coordinate this: I'm first waiting for your reactions. So what do you think? I'll see if I can get InterBase 5 for Linux to see how this runs. Groetjes, Berend.
