Well, if you find a new firmware release because of some problem,
please let me know.  My controller every time at boot (and FreeBSD, at
install-time), reports geometry problems and that "This will not work
in OS other than DOS", and, well, it works just fine. :-) Flipping the
"Support for drives >1GB" option and various other options didn't
help, and I'm thinking maybe the drives themselves are reporting
something odd.
