I don't know anything about this, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would be permanent. The first book didn't get much of a welcome, and it describes in minute detail an obsolete BSD version (IIRC based on 4.3BSD Net/2, not 4.4BSD). I'd guess that the publisher was pretty disappointed in the sales.
