Well, they sell their own server, so they're in competetition with
XFree86, I guess.  They're polite about it, I guess, so maybe it's
expected.

That seems a little extreme ... or, at least, make the warning message
more explicit, warn that XiG uses a config setup that works badly with
newer XFree86 installs.
