Finally did some testing in a "supported configuration" (Windows) and it's a total brick. It does one thing well, it makes nice coasters. With the supplied software even at 1x, audio cds are a mess. Tried a data cd and checked off the "verify" button. On verify it was unable to read a whole mess of blocks. Tried the cd in a few other machines and the cd was unreadable. It's going back to the store tomorrow. Stay away from this drive.
