Most of the cheaper printers are Winprinters, the technical term is "host dependent," and will not work with a real operating system. You can get a list of printer performance under Linux on: http://lhd.datapower.com/db/searchproduct.cgi?_catid=10&orderby=7 Printers that seem to do best are: Hewlett-Packard DeskJet 882C, HP 660CSe, HP 2100M, HP 812C, Lexmark Optra S, and Lexmark E310.
