I just called TI and had them send me the complete manual for the chip.
They mailed me a pdf file and I can forward it to you if you are interested.
It's 114 pages and lists all the registers and their functions, so I think
this is what I would need to write a driver for this chip.  Am very close
to deciding to do just that.
