Some time ago, just to see how it worked, I dumped the content of a ufs partition on a CD, and was then able to mount it using mount /dev/wcd0c /mnt i.e. as an UFS file system. Things were not perfect since I could crash the machine relatively easily by doing tar cvf /dev/null /mnt , but at least the disk was mounted. Today i was trying the same thing on a diskless 2.2.6, and the mount command replies "/dev/wcd0c on /mnt: Input/output error". What has changed to prevent the mount ? The disk is readable (using dd etc.). Being able to mount a cd as UFS partition is quite useful for doing backups, since you don't need the space (and the time) to create a temporary ISOFS image. With CDROM being cheap as they are, this is a real plus.
