The modification is in the diff between rev 1.4 and 1.6 of ppp/os.c
(but alas it's not in the CVS log).  The diff contains four different
hunks, the third one is the one bumping the pty limit from 10 to 256.
I think it's safe (and easy) to merge this into 2.1.X, Marc.
