Hi Sean, 1. run the cvsup to update your port collection. (http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/books/handbook/ports-using.html) The updated port should already contain patching information and will take care of the rest. So do not worry about dependencies. If you prefer to do it manually: 1. run "make exctract". 2. run "make" 3. run "make install" I hope this helps, Regards, bitHawk ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sean Ellis" <sellis@telus.net> To: <freebsd-questions@freebsd.org> Sent: Monday, January 24, 2005 3:36 AM Subject: upgrade software with no package db > Hello, > > I'm looking moving to a newer Mysql version on a machine where the > database of installed packages has been trashed. > > I'm expecting that after examining /usr/ports/UPGRADING, whatever > READMEs accompany the source, and manually checking for dependencies, > that I can extract and patch the port, and install it. > > If anyone has any tips for some way of using the ports framework to make > this any easier please pass them on, > > thanks, > > -- > Sean > _______________________________________________ > freebsd-questions@freebsd.org mailing list > http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-questions > To unsubscribe, send any mail to > "freebsd-questions-unsubscribe@freebsd.org"
