It would be nice if the events could be noticed by a 'poll' and
'select', so people could use it to wake up at places where they use
that to sleep.

Apart from that, I can't think of anything you didn't already cover -
perhaps 'wait for modification by user X/process Y', but that doesn't
seem too useful.
