I was using freebsd-update for the same reason, but freebsd-update have its own problems, so I am doing make buildkernel & make buildworld on one machine (build server), exporting /usr/src and /usr/obj by NFS to other machines and then just make installkernel and installworld (+mergemaster) on each machine. It takes few minutes. It is maybe a faster way than freebsd-update and less fragile for uncomplete updates etc. Miroslav Lachman
