For ip multicasting on freebsd :

checkout http://rah.star-gate.com/~hasty/mbone.html

or use netscape and do a search on MBONE.

In a nutshell, I use ip multicast for global audio/video conferencing.

That is I can hold a conversation with someone on Europe and / or Japan.
