1)  Compile in pcm0
2)  Configure appropriately
3)  Grab the pcm-ified x11amp from ftp.se.opensound.com/pub/ossapps/
4)  Enjoy

What brand/model of soundcard?  Is it Plug & Play?

Try looking at the pcm entry in LINT for hints.
