Not just on FreeBSD.  This is correct POSIX semantics (modulo the errno
negation).  Linux' ioctl(2) manpage says that "a few ioctl() requests use t=
he
return value as an output parameter and return a nonnegative value on succe=
ss"
but that's utterly broken.  Ideally, drmIoctl() should be fixed to always
behave per POSIX.
