Hi - sorry to bother you but you were the first person on the
stable-digest I got today. I keep getting errors when I try to mail to
stable. I am registered, but it says something about not being able to
find my hostname. I think their security may be a little too good... Can
you forward my question for me? I'll be able to read the answers in the
digest, but just can't send.

thanks,
rob

Subject: kernel trap 9 with interrupts disabled - Oracle on Stable

I sync'd up to stable about a month ago:
adsl-63-198-218-205# uname -v
FreeBSD 4.3-STABLE #1: Sat Jun 9 10:45:13 PDT 2001
root@adsl-63-198-218-205.dsl.snfc21.pacbell.net:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/SPEWEY

I'm in the process of doing a silent install of oracle. Unfortunately all
of the instructions out there for installing oracle on linux/freebsd no
longer apply with the current version of Oracle (8.1.7). You now have to
do a "silent" install using a config file (a .rsp file). I run the
installer with my .rsp file and get the message:
[oracle@adsl-63-198-218-205 Disk1]$ ./runInstaller -responseFile
/home/oracle/svrtypical.rsp
[oracle@adsl-63-198-218-205 Disk1]$ Initializing Java Virtual Machine from
../stage/Components/oracle.swd.jre/1.1.8/1/DataFiles/Expanded/linux/bin/jre. Please
wait...

CPU usage jumps up to 100% with two jre processes. Syslogd is running a
bunch too. I look at /var/log/messages and see:

Jul 2 12:56:42 adsl-63-198-218-205 /kernel: kernel trap 9 with interrupts
disabled
Jul 2 12:57:13 adsl-63-198-218-205 last message repeated 31316 times
Jul 2 12:59:14 adsl-63-198-218-205 last message repeated 126242 times

This seems to be related to:

http://www.geocrawler.com/archives/3/157/2000/5/0/3818603/

Any suggestions? Maybe get a new java virtual machine?

thanks,
rob
