Absolutely.  vipw(8), and rename "root" to something else.
There are zillions of scripts and Makefiles that are hardcoded to
assume that root is a valid name for the superuser, and that you
will consequently need to fix, but "root" is merely a convention.
Of course, if you need to ask, you'll probably hang yourself with
it.
