I installed 4.5 as I recall from a mapped ISO image and have been keeping it up to date with cvsup. I am not running the vmware tools though. I installed it into a file on the disk and not a true partition. I did have problems booting the 4.5-RELEASE and 4.4-RELEASE boot floppies with vmware and on the true hardware. For some reason, the floppy wasn't recognized as bootable. Hope this helps, Alan Edmonds -----Original Message----- From: Makoto Matsushita [mailto:matusita@jp.FreeBSD.org] Sent: 29 May 2002 16:21 To: stable@FreeBSD.org Subject: VMware 3.1.1 for Windows and FreeBSD 4.6-RC2 I've tried to install FreeBSD 4.6-RC2 on VMware 3.1.1 for Windows box. However, * kern.flp boots fine, loader started. * loader reads mfsroot.flp contents cleanly. * kernel starts. Display USERCONFIG menu. Skip it. * kernel detects devices. * sysinstall starts, then "Probing devices, please wait (this can take a while)..." dialog is shown. * sysinstall seems to be stalled. so I cannot install. Installing 4.5-RELEASE works fine with the same VM configuration. What am I missing? Note that the latest 4-stable (May/29/2002), and 4-stable as of Apr/15/2002 also can't install. -- - Makoto `MAR' Matsushita To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-stable" in the body of the message
