+1 for this. The picture is quite clear with graphics drivers, but it is a complete haos in hardware decoding and encoding video.
However, http://linux-hardware.org database has information which drivers are used on different hardware, also, some recent probes include output of vainfo, vdpauinfo. That may be useful.
