I had the opposite experience.  the bge driver would regularly lock  
up my machine under heavy load. Switching to em interfaces resulted  
in a 100% stable machine.  But I'm also wondering if the recent fix  
to the SMP opteron locking up issue was the real cause.  No way to  
tell since these boxes are in production now...
