If you have browser access, then point to http://www.freebsd.org/ and read all of the documentation there. At the ftp site you should start with all of the *.TXT files. I would recommend you get the bin, flopies, manpages, ports, and maybe tools. You can have the site bundle up what you want by requesting the directory as a tar file or gziped tar file.
