            Bug ID: 228565
           Summary: sysutils/syslog-ng fails to start when run as non-root
           Product: Ports & Packages
           Version: Latest
          Hardware: amd64
                OS: Any
            Status: New
          Severity: Affects Only Me
          Priority: ---
         Component: Individual Port(s)
          Assignee: cy@FreeBSD.org
          Reporter: rainer@ultra-secure.de
             Flags: maintainer-feedback?(cy@FreeBSD.org)
          Assignee: cy@FreeBSD.org

/usr/local/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng start

Starting syslog_ng.

addr=3D'AF_UNIX(/var/run/log)', error=3D'Permission denied (13)'

name=3D'unix-dgram', location=3D'source generator system:4:14'
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/syslog-ng: WARNING: failed to start syslog_ng

syslog-ng314 on FreeBSD 11.1 amd64, built from 2018Q2 ports-tree cut.

With syslog-ng.conf.dist as syslog-ng.conf configfile.

One has to create a subdirectory in /var/run to house the files for ctl and
persist.

syslogd_enable=3D"NO"
syslog_ng_enable=3D"YES"
syslog_ng_config=3D"-u daemon -c /var/run/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.ctl -R
/var/run/syslog-ng/syslog-ng.persist-"
syslog_ng_pid=3D"/var/run/syslog.pid"

I assume I'd have to switch that file to the subdirectory, too - but how do=
 I
do that?

Is running it as non-root actually supported?
