The following reply was made to PR ports/25341; it has been noted by GNATS. From: Will Andrews <will@physics.purdue.edu> To: Michael Johnson <ahze@ahze.net> Cc: openverse@openverse.org, FreeBSD GNATS DB <FreeBSD-gnats-submit@FreeBSD.org> Subject: Re: ports/25341: New PORT (OpenVerse) Date: Mon, 12 Mar 2001 17:38:28 -0500 --KD3NH8oGZ7XN2Llp Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable Hi, I have reviewed the PR located at: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=3D25341 and have a serious problem with it. The OpenVerse tarball as it is on OV's webpage has no version number attached. So there's no way to distinguish between a tarball for version 0.8-2 and 0.8-3. Yet the debs and such are versioned. Also, I dislike the versioning scheme. Why use a different delimiter for the second minor number? Why not 0.8.x instead of 0.8-x? That's just silly. Would it be possible for OpenVerse to use a different scheme in the future that involves putting up versioned tarballs and using only periods as delimiters in the version numbers?
